MINE!

 
I read the book Mine! by Kevin Luthardt.  this book is about twin boys that get a box in the mail from grandma.  when the boys open the box they found out that grandma only sent one toy!  the boys fight and fight about the toy until they end up ripping it! so mom send them to their room.  she calls them down for lunch, when the boys get to the table they see that their toy is fixed.  at the end they learn to share.

I would use this book to show the children that we need to share.  they will see if we all share they will all be happy, and the toys will stay in better shape.  I think this is a great book to use in the classroom for students to read when ever they want.  the only thing about this book is that the only word in here is mine so the pictures is what really tells the story. 

Little White Rabbit

 

 

I read the book a Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes.  throughout this book it says how it would be if the rabbit was different thing.  the rabbit hops around and as he does this he will pass by things saying I wonder how it would be if I was as tall as a tree.  and on the next page it would show how the rabbit would look if he was that big.  I thought that the book could have had a different ending because I though the ending did not really think it went with the book, but other then that it was a really good book.    the pictures are great.  they are made with color pencil.  this link below shows the author drawing the pictures of this book I thought that was an awesome video.

to use this in a classroom I think that it would be used for an after lunch book to clam down the students after running around.  I would ask the children after to go to their desk and work alone on a drawing if they were just like something else what would they look like.  I would them ask if they wanted to they could stand up and share it with the class. 

A Ball for Daisy!

 

I read the book A Ball for Daisy by Chris Raschka.  this book was about a dog who love to play with her ball.  her owner takes her to the park to play with her ball.  while they were at the park the ball popped, the owner got mad at Daisy and threw the ball in the trash can.  Daisy was really sad then the next day they went back to the park and some children gave Daisy a new ball to play with.  this story is a great story to have for and independent read. 

I think that this book is a great book.  this book is another one of those books that do not have any words to it.  this would be great to see what some of the children come up with in my class.  every child sees things differently and every child has a different story to tell.  this book also has many awesome pictures and they are very clear.  so there should be no confusion on what picture goes next.

 

 

 

 

 

Dog In Charge

 

 

I read dog in charge by K.L. Going.  This book was about a dog who's family went to the store.  When they left for the store they told the dog that he would be in charge of the cats while they were gone.  During this time the dog was trying to keep that cats in one spot so that he could watch over them more closely, but when that dog turned around that cats were gone!  He had to chase the cats all over the house.  The cats were jumping on things and knocking things over all over the house.  At this point the dog started to get scared that his family wont call him a "good dog, the very best dog".  At the end the dog falls asleep because he was so tired from chasing around the cats the whole time, when the cats find him asleep they clean up the whole house before the family got home.  When the family gets home they are so happy that the dog kept everything in order and gave him many treats.

I would probably use this book to show children that it is important to work together as a team.  I would explain to the class that there are times that you need to work by your self, but there will also be many times where you will have to work in a group or in a team.  I think that it is important that children learn this at a young age so that they will be comfortable doing it later in life!

Liitle Lizards New Baby

I read Little Lizards New baby by Melinda Melton Crow.  this book is about a lizard family that is about to have a baby.  Gray the "big brother" lizard tells through out the book what he is going to teach the new baby.  The mom and dad lizard keep saying good to the things that he wants to teach the baby.

Gray wants a little brother lizard, but when the mom and dad lizard walks in they tell him that the new baby is a sister lizard.  this book is written for children that are just first learning how to read.  it has simple words for the children to understand.  what I did not like about it was that the book just ended. there was nothing after the baby came home so that students could understand some of the things that happen with a new baby, but other than that it was a pretty good book.  I probably would not use this as an class read; I think I would use it as an independent  read.  I know that sometimes it is hard when a new baby comes in the house.  so I think that this book will show that it will be fun when the baby comes. 

Octopus Soup

The book that I read was Octups Soup by Mercer Mayer.  This book was about an octopus that was moving out of his parents house. On his way of moving out be got caught by fisherman.  They wanted to make soup out of the octopus.  Through out the book you see the octopus trying to get away.  This book has no words so it gives the children a chance to tell their own story.  I like that children can do this with this book because we as teacher want them to get use to seeing all the words that we are trying to teach them, but sometimes it is nice to see what they think the pictures are saying. You can get 30 different stories out of one book.  I would love to have this in my personal library because I think it would be a nice book for the children to relax with or write their own story to.  Then they could tell their story to the class.  It would be nice to see all of these different stories!  Then I thought that a cute fun activity would be making their own octopus.  So I posted a video above to show you how you would do that!

Hugs From Pearl

 

 



 

I read hugs from Pearl by Paul Schmid.  This was a story of a porcupine who loved hugs but he needles were to sharp that she would cut/scratch people that she would hug.  Even though her friends were very nice about the scratches from pearl she still felt very bad for hurting them. She did not want to hurt any one because she wanted a hug, so at one point she stopped asking and giving hugs.  At the end she finds a away for give everyone hugs with out hurting them.  At that point every one was happy. 

    

I really enjoyed this book because it was a nice read and it is a book that could be read at the end of lunch or even at the end of the day.  Another thing that I was thinking about while I was reading this book was that I could use it as a lessen if there was bullying going on in the classroom.  This book teaches us that no matter what people have or look like that we should all be nice to each other.  It is important for children to be taught at a young age about respecting one another.  I also rented this book at the library and this is one that I also want to by for my personal library.
